A talk between Max Renkel and Mirta d'Argenzio
Introduced by Mario Codognato

An open dialogue between artist Max Renkel and curator Mirta d'Argenzio, dedicated to the artist's visual and conceptual research, his essential pictorial language, and the role of signs and symbols in contemporary art. The talk will be introduced by Mario Codognato, Director of Palazzo Diedo, who will offer a critical reading of Renkel's work.

The event takes place on the occasion of the presentation of the publication Laconic Icons, published by Schirmer/Mosel, with texts by Durs Grünbein and Oswald Egger: a work that collects and explores Renkel's recent artistic production, conveying its lyrical power and symbolic density.

Max Renkel, born in Munich in 1966 and a graduate of the Hamburg Academy of Fine Arts, has been living and working in Rome for many years. His paintings, which could be attributed to constructivist art, appear abstract at first glance, but upon closer examination contain numerous figurative elements, including erotic ones. Renkel typically works in small formats. His paintings therefore are imbued with an intimate dimension, not only in terms of content; his very personal color choices also avoid bright tones. The title "Laconic Icons," which he chose for his book, reflects the minimalist restraint of his works.

The event is presented with the support of the German Federal Commissioner for Culture and Media and the Centro Tedesco di Studi Veneziani
